April 28 is Worker’s Memorial Day, a day that honors fallen workers in the United States, and has been observed every year since 1971, when the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) was established. According to the West Virginia branch of the AFL-CIO union, since OSHA was created, “job fatalities, injuries and illnesses have been reduced significantly as have exposures to toxic substances such as asbestos, lead, benzene and cotton dust.”
